Associate of Arts with a concentration in Health Care Administration/Medical Records

The Associate of Arts with a concentration in Health Care Administration/Medical Records degree program is designed to give students a basic overview of medical records management practices. Should you choose to further your education or career goals in the future, an Associate of Arts degree in Health Care Administration, Medical Records, can prepare you for further study in a bachelor’s degree program.

Coursework

As a Health Care Administration/Medical Records student, your concentration courses will focus on:

  • Medical terminology related to disease diagnosis and treatment
  • Foundation skills in medical record keeping
  • Patient information management
  • Medical claims processing

Nine weeks in length, courses are offered in pairs, or "blocks," designed to complement each other. In these courses, emphasis alternates weekly between reading and online discussion one week and a work project the next.

Software-based instruction simulates a variety of records management processes commonly found in medical facilities.

While this concentration does not lead to certification in medical coding practice or any other related practice, it does provide a solid foundation for further study and specialization in medical records.

The completion of an Associate of Arts degree represents an important milestone for many students as they pursue their educational goals.
